Stopped in on a Friday night that they were clearly not expecting to be busy. Things were moving slow but I have to say that I haven't seen people work as hard as the staff that was on hand. Those ladies were working their butts off. Despite a couple of rude customers and one large group after another demanding separate checks, they really did keep it all going. The food was average and I'm guessing it would have been better on a slower night. We opted for a seat at the bar to speed things along.

Not a bad place to eat and the beer selection is good enough. I stopped here two nights in a row to eat their patty melt with a side of onion rings. I was satisfied both nights by the grub while drinking an Aspen Brewing's IPA. Both were sound choices. The first night my server(s) were efficient and friendly. The second night the three (different) servers were butting heads at the bar as to who took what tables, ad nauseum. They couldn't get their heads together and were bickering and biting each other's heels (figuratively). If you want to have a quick, quality eat, go in and get the patty melt. Very good.

They advertise juicy brisket and pulled pork, sounds good on paper, but OH MY GOSH, it was NOT JUICY, it was like eating POORLY SEASONED CARDBOARD! I kid you not, I had to quickly grab my water and take a huge gulp because I thought I was going to choke. Oh yeah, the meat was not hot, not sure how they managed considering they supposedly cook it themselves. And no, grabbing the barbecue sauce does not help at all because it tasted gross. My wife's hamburger was not very good either, the only thing they got right was my daughters buttered noodles...I guess they have not found a way to screw those up YET. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Solid grub for pre, mid, or après ski/snowboard sesh, friendly staff, and Fireball on draft (more like a box with a spout). And that's all she wrote, folks.

  • Hong B.

We had breakfast here 2 out of 3 days that we were here. Lot of healthy food. My daughter had fruit bowl. I had pancake and my husband had the continental bk and all were good. The price was decent and services were good.

The food was great. The brisket was tender and flavorful. The burger was done perfectly. The service is rather slow but friendly. The deck is beautiful.

It's kind of hard to articulate how bad this place really is! We waited 20 minutes for anyone to bring us water and talk to us. I started wondering if they were playing a joke on us or something. I saw a hose down stairs and was so tired and thirsty I thought about crawling down the stairs to get a drink. Hmmmmmm, "look at those poor diners of our over their dying of thirst....?!" "Let's see how long they can go....!" Do not go to this place!!!!!

I want to give four stars to the food and two stars to the service, so the average is three stars. Ordered fettuccini afredo with shrimp, I love the creamy taste and it's hard to go wrong, my friend ordered some burger which seemed to be good too. But their service is just sooo slow! Order is slow and check is slow! And it's overpriced too, I don't think a plate of noodles worth 20 bucks but I guess you can't ask for more in a touristy place

  • Mike M.

Crap service on a slow day and food was not good. When asked how the food was I told them not good at all and our server actually laughed. They know nothing about BBQ and don't know how to make nachos either. Will never go back! Awful experience! Oh did I mention some of the worst service I've ever had? I don't know how this place stays open honestly, would have been happier with beef jerky and a power bar as far as food goes. Anyone who gives this more than 2 stars has very poor taste and probably does not get out much.

Food is blah.. Came on a fri night. This was our first place to eat outside the ski resort after a day on the mountain so anything sounded good at that time. I went with their BBQ selection as it seems to be the most promising choice. 2 meat combo and although the food looked like it was week old, the ribs weren't as dried as it seemed. The brisket however was a complete failure. I was already scrapping off their BBQ sauce since it wasn't tasty, but when it came to the brisket I didn't know what to do. Curly fries were overlooked and crunchy. At 17bucks ketchup everything or skip it. Service was nice and I did enjoyed my coleslaw.

Went there for breakfast and had the burrito! It was huge and delicious. Could easily split it with someone. Other party had the eggs Benedict and that was very good also

  • Kendra N.

The owner was there and he was nice. The hostess came up with paper and crayons for my toddler though I don't think they usually provide them. The burger I ate was delicious. My husband had the pulled pork barbecue plate and he liked it. The facility is a bit outdated looking, but it's clean and you can tell they've made improvements. I don't think they had a diaper changing table, but not a deal breaker for me.

  • Lauren J.

The service and staff were tremendous. Sadly the opposite is true of the food. The portions were enormous and not good. I ordered the tilapia and veg. The tilapia I know was from Costco and the veg was obviously frozen. It was $15 and I could only eat a tiny portion. Can't say we'll be going back.

    (2)
  • Daniel M.

The food was decent! They charged $14 for casadella! Way over priced... The SERVICE sucks big time... Not the friendliest people in town! Very arrogant! Go somewhere else... There are more friendlier restaurant out there...!

  • Michael E.

Food was OK. Booths were dirty. Service was slow and unprofessional. Wouldn't be back.

Kids review: we liked the fish and chips which were actually curly fries. We also liked the salad with the balsamic dressing. The best part was the fudge brownie dessert. Kids menu grade: B+, there were non-fried options like turkey and cheese, ham and cheese or PB&J sandwiches with fries and a soft drink, or salad as side options. Parents review: come with expectations of burgers and fries and other pub fare and you won't be disappointed. Service is really good and the value prop is actually decent for resort dining.

We came here for outdoor seating and a nice lunch on a beautiful summer day. While the staff was friendly and accommodating, the food was less than mediocre. My sister and I had the fish tacos which were hardly fresh and the corn tortillas were dry and broke as soon as you picked them up. My son ordered Mac and Cheese which our waiter admitted was Kraft out of the box...$8.50 for a small bowl! The price I might not have minded had they actually made it homemade or even served it with a side of fruit or something. The only thing decent on the table was the chipotle mac n cheese my daughter ordered (an app); it was "decent" mainly because it actually tasted like it wasn't out of a box, but don't expect much more than that. Perhaps one should just come here for a happy hour beer before grabbing lunch or dinner at a restaurant with better food for the price. I'd recommend Venga Venga in this area: better food, drinks, atmosphere, & view.

I thought this place was pretty good! We had great service. Food came out quickly and was hot. Server kept up with refills and checked on if everything was as requested. Prices were decent for Snow Mass. The nachos were especially good!

    (4)
  • Linda B.

Not good. We waited 45 min after our food was ordered. Food was ok but not worth the wait. I had to wait just to get a glass of watet.

    (2)
  • Barry R.

If you want to eat breakfast out in Snowmass before 11AM, Hoss is the only place open. After eating there, I'd rather go hungry for the morning, or hold out for a bangin' brunch, anywhere but here. Our waitress was slow and forgetful. It felt like she may have been taking advantage of her new Colorado state recreational marijuana legal freedoms. Syrup was asked for and forgotten and she forgot to put in one of our party's entire meal. She brought everyone else's food out and disappeared, and only after we asked about it did she notice she had forgotten to put his order in, so he didn't eat until after everyone was already finished. No discount or freebies were offered for the mistake and long wait. Even though the place wasn't busy, she did not come by to check on us, and left the bus person to fill waters. The food for brunch was standard, eggs, bacon, sausage, not bad, but nothing inventive or healthy. All the ingredients were clearly the cheapest they could get. They only offered unlabeled generic ketchup and mustard, where's my beloved Heinz ketchup? Don't we deserve better than no-name ketchup for $16 eggs and toast? It is a small place, there are kitchen supplies in the dining area. The decor is cheap and old, it tastes like the run down diner it is. The food isn't terrible, but it's very standard fare. The only thing surprising about it was how high the prices were for the low quality of the food, service, and atmosphere.

  • Jane S.

I've been here before and always felt the service was under par but today they took it to a whole new low. Literally, we waited 20 minutes for just water. They are do understaffed it's just painful to watch them work. If you're starving, don't go here. We had the patty melt and curly fries which were ok. The fries were actually good. But the service was just deplorable. There's gotta be a new place to get burgers in snowmass. Forget this place!

    (1)
  • Mike D.

Horrible service and the food was not freshly cooked many other places to spend your money to eat.

    (1)
  • Lee S.

Great food in the heart of Snowmass. The food isn't something that would "define" Big Hoss Grill as a "must see" location; however the food was good, service was great, any my stomach was satisfied!

    (4)
  • Cara S.

The service here by the bleached blonde was some of the worst... I understand they are busy but her rude attitude and absence of customer skills were horrible. My sister in law ordered a sugar free red bull twice and both times I watched her go over and make it with regular red bull! Good thing she was not ordering the sugar free for health reasons... It took 20 minutes to get a water! The young man running around clearing tables and running food was the only saving grace of our meal. Food was good but the waitress made for a poor experience...

    (2)
  • Darren G.

Don't understand the bad reviews here. We enjoy the food and the service has always been great and friendly. The prices are excellent value for Aspen. It's a burger and wings kind of place but I've ordered salads and they've been decent. We like it and I would recommend it for a good cheap place after the slopes.

    (4)
  • Nora T.

Great ski grub and even better prices. The half order nachos were enough for four, I can't imagine what the full order is like but they were delicious. I don't recommend the crab cakes, however, I am from Northern VA so I have access to some of the best crab cakes in the world. The barbecue platter that I ordered was enough food for two but the pork was very tender. Curly fries brought me right back to my childhood, too. Decided to check this place out for breakfast the next morning, per the server's recommendation and was not disappointed. I was still pretty full from the night before so I ordered the yogurt parfait (served in a giant mug). The granola was extra crunchy (my fav) and the fruit was fresh. My bf ordered the french toast and was really happy with it. Wish we would have discovered breakfast here sooner, instead of paying $20/person for a mediocre buffet at the hotel.

I'm a sucker for nachos. I don't always get them when I travel, but sometimes... for lunch.. the mood hits. I've always told my wife that nachos are one of those foods that are impossible to screw up. Enter the Big Hoss Grill... first ever to mess up nachos so bad they were inedible. Seriously. Chips smothered in cheap cheese and some kind of bean sauce (with no beans) and no lettuce. No tomatoes. No salsa. Nothing fresh! I got the brisket thinking it might be nice lean pieces of meat, but they were the fattiest cuts of leftover meat fat that almost made me an instant vegetarian. I may have to count this as the worst most overpriced lunch I've ever had. The service was nothing to write home about either. Anyone giving this place 5 stars needs to get out more. My advice: steer clear. There are way better choices in the area... heck, Starbucks just down the way would serve a better lunch.

Five of us ate at Boss Hogs & all were pleased. KC pulled pork, burrito, burger, & ribs all met expectations. Service was very attentive, and prices were in line. Recommend it as a Good choice for their market.

    (4)
  • Isaac C.

I had the ribs. They were on the dry side and there wasn't a lot of meat on the bone. Veggies were overcooked. Slaw was standard. The food and atmosphere were not far off from a Ryan's or Golden Corral (which regrettably I have the misfortune of being familiar with, thanks to my grandfather). I wouldn't go back.

    (2)
  • Hailey R.

We had a great server and our food was delicious! I would recommend starting your meal with the big hoss nachos! Their pulled pork was delicious, but ask for extra sauce! Big portions!

    (5)
  • Suzee Q.

Our dinner was great. We split a burger and a full order of nachos. The burger was perfectly done. The nachos were GREAT with plentiful guac and sour cream. Our server was okay. We were tucked away in the back but didn't feel ignored. Price was good. We'll try it for breakfast!

  • Eric P.

My wife and I ate here twice during our stay. For lunch, this is definitely a "dive-y" place to eat. The food is okay, the BBQ sauce is unique and the meats are generally well prepared. The ribs were melt in your mouth tender. The service was a bit disorganized and sketchy - our waiter carried the water pitcher with his hand all over the rim. Other than that, lunch was pretty decent and not badly priced. The curly fries were really good. We came back for breakfast because they were the only place nearby to serve French toast. I was a bit disappointed. They used too much nutmeg, although that may just be preference. But only 2 pieces (4 wedges) made it a small meal for the price. I added bacon and it was the thinnest cut bacon I'd ever seen. Good, but SO thin. Chocolate milk was weak and the syrup cost 2.50 extra. My wife had the breakfast croissant and she liked it quite a bit. Their fruit cup was fresh and very good quality. Their coffee was good. The service for breakfast was much better.

    (3)
  • Rob C.

This place is ok. I had the pulled pork plate and my wife ordered the burrito. Both were good enough, but nothing spectacular. The pork was only lukewarm. They had some Aspen Brewing beers on tap for $5 per beer. The service was good. Overall, there wasn't much to write home about.

  • Stephan G.

This place has excellent barbecue and a good selection of local beers. Just make sure to get seated before 9 PM to enjoy a great dinning experience. HELPFUL TIP: Get the Big Hoss Nachos with brisket for $11. It includes a full plate of nachos along with a complete serving of their beef brisket. It is the best deal on the menu and they even say it on the menu. We also order a plate of their ribs and the meat complete fell off of the bone and was extremely delicious. We recommend this place for great barbecue.

    (5)
  • R R.

Good food and good people. We took breakfast back to our hotel from Big Hoss, and the quality and service were excellent. We had the smothered breakfast burrito and croissant sandwich. They were both better than we expected. The staff was very friendly and attentive.

  • Nichole V.

Very attentive staff, great TVs for the game and $4 drafts! What more could you ask for?

    (5)
  • Max P.

I've eaten here several times over the last four ski seasons. There are two things that are consistent here: the nachos are good and the service is bad. Burgers are meh...frozen preformed over cooked patty. Fish Tacos are a no go. The service here typically has the same person I see all the time and various clueless young ladies. If you can't get into anywhere else and don't want the bus ride to Aspen, go for the nachos and a beer.

    (2)
  • Mark K.

Big Hoss Grill has an extensive menu. I had the BBQ brisket and was really pleased. It was a big meal and the brisket was tender. The BBQ sauce was excellent. The cole slaw was fair. The kids really enjoyed my curly fries. In fact, everyone enjoyed their meals (although I can't recall what everyone else had). We found the service to be fine. The restaurant itself is very casual. We would definitely return again the next time we are in Snowmass Village.

    (4)
  • J S.

Breakfast was delicious. Service was good and everyone was nice. So glad we came here over eating the expensive hotel food. I was told by a local that this is where the locals eat. Big food portions. Price was right on.

    (4)
  • Alec H.

I gave this place two stars rather than one since in the lack of any other options I might go there again. PLEASE HELP ME FIND SOMETHING BETTER, LOL!!! However, the service was horrible (I hardly EVER undertip but they didn't earn any more than 10%- trust me), the food made me wish I had just made a sandwich at home, and the seats were so crowded that my guests and I kept stepping on each others' feet- OUCH!

    (2)
  • Becca V.

Our waiter walked past our table @ least 10 times and never acknowledged us. It wasn't even busy! Instead of taking our order, we saw him eating popcorn with his girlfriend! We left after 15 minutes.

  • Leilani S.

The hubby and I are currently on a no red meat or cheese diet. Surprisingly, we found our way here for a decent priced and delicious meal. The husband had fish and chips and I had Hondo's tacos w/ tilapia. The tacos came with refried beans, spanish rice, guacamole, sour cream, and two tacos. All the parts were Delicious! The tilapia was probably the least tasty, but the other parts were delectable. My favorite part was the Spanish Rice (or is it Mexican?) following with a close second on the pico de gallo/guacamole. We had to move our table three times due to discovering the awesome view in the back of the restaurant and then getting rained on with an infant in tow. Would definitely come back if we were ever in Snowmass again!

    (5)
  • Tricia W.

Warning: This review may be clouded by starvation It was still really great. They seated 8 of us right away and were very attentive. I got some pretty solid fish tacos and my friends were ALL about the ribs. Great reasonably priced place in Snowmass.

    (4)
  • Luke F.

Food was below average and wait staff was unfriendly. Save your time and go anywhere else in snowmass village.

    (1)
  • Lauren H.

The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of one is because my dad said his fish and chips was good. The brisket was very fatty and hardly edible. The burger was bland. We had a runner bring our food, and our waitress never returned after taking our order. I got up and got my own silverware. There's much better restaurants in Snowmass. Skip this one.

    (2)

Had the steak sandwich with choice of soup. Clam chowder was good but in a small cup. Steak was very nice and tasty and a good size. Good seating inside & outside.

Took a trip out to Aspen/Snowmass to shred some powder on the slopes. Also went out there for the Winter X-Games. After hitting the slopes, the group was looking for a good place to get a burger. This place hit the spot. Not only did they have burgers at a decent price ($11.95 along with curly fries and slaw) but they had really great bbq pulled pork, ribs and Texas brisket plates which were all pit cooked. I got the Chihuahua burger (Mexican cheese, salsa and guacamole) the first night (Yummy I might add) and the bbq pulled pork the second night we went there and it was absolutely delicious. The pork was soft and tender and the slaw they served was one of the best I've ever had. It even came with baked beans. Normally I don't like beans but these were really good. If you are in the Snowmass area and looking for a great place to dine, this place marks the spot.

  • Matthew V.

Good food and service. So why only 2 stars? When I received my bill, I saw that a 20% gratuity had automatically been added to the total. I asked to see the menu to determine if this had been declared up front. The menu said that a gratuity "may be included," so I guess it's up to the discretion of the management. Perhaps I looked like someone who stiffs the wait staff? What's worse, however, was that nowhere was the amount or percent of the gratuity listed. 15%? 20%? Why stop there? They could add 50%, according to their rules. I abhor this behavior at restaurants who tack on a mandatory tip for large parties, but it's inexcusable to do so for any size group, including a single diner. I will not be returning to this restaurant.

Delish breakfast! Perfect place to fuel up before skiing. We had everything from breakfast burrito to pancakes. Fast service and very family friendly.

Great bloody Mary, awesome green chili curly fry appetizers, and fun atmosphere.

Went to Big Hoss Grill tonight and the food was just OK. The nachos were huge and so so. We ordered the chicken strips and what we got was a basket of fries with 3 medium chicken strips on top, a little disappointing to say the least. I mentioned it to the waitress and she said that they always put three strips on top of the fries. I would rate Big Hoss Grill with 2.5 stars if it was possible.

  • Mark A.

Ribs were overcooked, mushy, with sub par BBQ sauce. I enjoyed the curly fries that came with my meal way more than the ribs and Arbys has better fries. Stick to ordering burgers here. Terrible, terrible service. Yes We had a group of 9, but when we came in, it was not crowded. The only place they could accommodate a group of 9 was in a terrible location. It blocked everyone's path to the bathroom. After getting mediocre food, it took the waitress 40 minutes to split the check. If I had known we would wait that long, I would have sent back the ribs and ordered a hamburger. Bottom Line: Sub par BBQ, Terrible Service, Highly Do NOT recommend.

  • Laura S.

We had a great ski lunch here. Nothing fancy, but great food and fast service. The BBQ sandwiches were out of this world. Brisket and cold slaw delist. Kids thought the chicken tenders were among the best they have ever had. Reasonable prices. Small amount of indoor seating. We plan to come back.

    (4)
  • Brad O.

The food here is OK. Standard ski restaurant fare. The problem we had is that they charged us 18% gratuity on both food and tax, then I received a credit card signature slip asking for another gratuity. Why is this a problem? First, I want to calculate my own tip based on service which was only fair. Secondly, tip is based on food cost, not food plus tax. Third, if I don't feel like arguing the point, i don't then want to be asked to pay a gratuity a second time. The whole ordeal seems like a minor robbery to me. It is an easy way for the ownership to get 18% extra and get their wait staff paid on top of it. Sleezy, IMHO. The food wasn't good enough to warrant this annoyance with the bill.

Our group wandered in here out of the cold and ran into a hot mess. The server had a serious attitude and many of the plates and glasses were filthy. Our group sent at least two glasses back because they were covered in fingerprints and food bits. As far as the food -- my burger was decent. Others in our group ordered the BBQ and all complained it was cold. Several in the group ordered the crab mango salad and all seem underwhelmed with the dish. The manager seemed nice enough and the place has promise. The menu looks good on paper, reasonably priced, nice patio/deck, plethora of TV's. They just need to get it together in the kitchen (and dishwasher) and work on the server's attitude.

We are here in Snowmass for the Disabled American Veterans Winter Sports Clinic. The Big Hoss Grill participates in the Taste of Snowmass as well as being one of the restaurants participating in the Veteran Voucher program for 2 of the nights dinner. Our first visit was great ! Rib eye steak was on the thin side, but cooked a perfect medium rare, served with curly fries & cole slaw. Portions here are huge! A house salad with fresh. Spring greens, tomato & cucumber is heaped on a dinner plate. Bleu cheese crumbles were no extra charge. Same deal with the Nachos, lots of cheese, green chili, sour cream & guacamole, then topped with your choice of brisket or chicken . We are talking enough for 3 - 4. Brisket plate was tender and tasty. Grilled Talapia was perfectly cooked and seasoned, serving was 3 good sized filets. Shirley, our server was friendly and very efficient. good team from the cook to the busboys. Plenty of seating indoors and out on the patio. Very reasonable for Snowmass Village, good food decent prices

My husband and I really liked Big Hoss. We highly recommend the chips and salsa (homemade and fabulous) and the hamburgers (large and cooked to order and properly!!!). Admittedly its a little on the dive side and the atmosphere is on the sticky side but the food is good, service was friendly and prompt, prices were very reasonable (especially for Aspen) and we really enjoyed our food. We went twice during our trip and look forward to returning when we visit Aspen again. We absolutely recommend Big Hoss for a yummy casual dining experience.

    (4)
  • Chris L.

Two stars on the strength of being reasonably priced (as far as Aspen/Snowmass goes), having a chill atmosphere, and also having plenty of tvs to watch from pretty much any angle. On food alone, I'd be generous to give it one star. The fries were good, but that's about it. The ribs tasted like old, rubber tires with some bbq sauce slabbed on top. I hear the burgers are better...

  • Paul H.

Skip it, you'll feel much better. Friends had the baked chicken and it was so dried out it wasn't eaten. We should have know when all of our plates arrived within 10 minutes. I had the brisket taco, not to bad in flavor but once again it was very dry. The decor of the place is horrible, dead or dying orchids everywhere. Be careful when ordering drinks cause they will up sale you. I ordered a margarita, I got my bill and they were $12 each. I questioned the bartender and he said he gave me some special margarita with Petron, I didn't order Petron, I ordered a margarita. One more thing, one should never put Petron in a kool-aid type margarita mix. It only deserves real lime only!!!

We sat at a nice table outside for breakfast. The breakfast choices are pretty traditional and range from a variety of eggs, french toast, and potatoes. The food was "A-OK," I ate the breakfast burrito I ordered but I wouldn't rush back here to eat. The food was just average.

    (3)
  • Ron K.

I love this place, everything we ate was quite tasty, the locale is amazing and the prices reasonable, all was just exactly perfect!!!

    (5)
  • Irene W.

I gave this place four stars instead of three mainly because of the awesome curly fries. They make a good standard burger and service was fast. But most surprising were the reasonable prices, which is pretty rare here in Aspen Snowmass, as I'm quickly learning. You can sit outside and do some good people-watching or you can inside, warm up, and watch some TV. All in all, a great lowkey find in a resort.

got a bison cheeseburger and side of slaw....the burgers are big and tasty but cost 12 dollars....the slaw was decent

Burgers

Burger or Hamburger is savored as the most desired fast food meal in the United States. A hamburger is basically a sandwich prepared by stuffing ground meat patty, generally beef, between two slices of a bun cut in half. Hamburger is also famous for its seasoning. Most popular condiments used in hamburgers in the United States are mustard, mayonnaise, and ketchup. Besides ground meat patty, hamburgers are also stuffed with lettuce, onions, tomato slices, pickles, and cheese.

Hamburgers are also categorized into two types in the United States. Fast food hamburger and individual hamburgers served at restaurants are two basic types of burgers served in the United States. The individual hamburgers served at restaurants are prepared using everything including lettuce, onion, tomato, and sliced pickles as well as melted cheese on the patty or crumbled on top. American restaurants also serve veggie burgers for those who don't relish meat. Cheeseburgers are also hot favorite in the United States.
